Currently, the number of veterans who have completely lost their eyesight is estimated to be around 800. Unfortunately, the war continues and this number is not final. Our social rehabilitation program is primarily aimed at their return to an active, maximally independent and fulfilling life.
The program was developed on the basis of a comprehensive approach and the principle of "equal to equal". During the 21-days intensive, program participants will receive: psychological support, basic skills of walking with a cane and orientation in space, self-service in everyday life and cooking, use of smartphones with voice access, development of coordination abilities, therapeutic massage and increase in the level of motor activity. The individual level of knowledge and skills of the participants will be determined, taking into account their age, education, place of residence, and individual rehabilitation programs will be planned. Members of their families will receive psychological support, theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the rules of accompanying the blind, household arrangements and legal advice
The partners of the project are the Organization "Contemporary View”, "National Assembly of People with Disabilities", Charitable organization “LET'S SEE THE VICTORY”
From March 20 to April 2, the Western Rehabilitation and Sports Center of the National Sports Committee for the Disabled of Ukraine will host a regular social adaptation and rehabilitation camp for veterans who lost their sight defending Ukraine and their families
The camp program is based on the method of joint rehabilitation of veterans who have lost their sight and their family members
The event will be attended by 12 veterans, and for 8 of them it will be the first stage of social adaptation after losing their sight. An additional challenge for the trainers will be the multiple disabilities of the participants: in addition to sight loss, some veterans have hearing loss, upper limb amputations, multiple contusions, etc
The team of trainers will draw up individual rehabilitation plans, which will allow for the implementation of personalized programs that will meet the capabilities and needs of each participant
Project partners: The Ukrainian Center for Physical Culture and Sports for People with Disabilities "Invasport", the NGO "Contemporary View", the Bistum Magdeburg, the ICF "Oleksandr Tereshchenko" and the CF "Let's See the Victory"
